About Me

My name is Jesus Hernandez. I am an aspiring high school English teacher. I love to read, I love to bake, and I love learning new languages. I consider myself to be somewhat savvy with modern technology—though creating this website took some elbow grease—while also enjoying classical entertainment. I want to foster a love of reading and writing into my future students, and I am hopeful that I may be able to inspire my kids to take charge of their learning and recognize the potential within themselves.

My Experiences With Digital Tools/Social Media

  • Like many people from my generation, I got caught in the rising buzz of various new social media platforms. In my experience, I’ve become mainly accustomed to Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook. I have accounts on all of these platforms—with varying levels of consistency—and use them to keep in touch with a variety of friends

  • Whether it’s traditional movies, YouTube, Netflix, or TikTok, I’ve become well-versed in navigating the visual scene in a virtual space. I see great value in utilizing such tools in the future, as I find it easier and often enjoyable when visual aids are given to help analyze.

  • School did integrate some digital tools for me, largely in the presentation experience. I’ve become immensely familiar with programs like Powerpoint, Press, Google Slides/Docs, and most recently Canva. I’ve learned about useful tools like ChatGPT, Wakelet, Jamboard, and Speechify, though these are relatively new to me and I cannot say I have them entirely figured out.

  • Whether it’s in service of presentations, keeping track of assignments and grades through online servers, or writing notes/conducting research, I’ve recognized that education has advanced to a digital sphere. In my pre-service classroom now, I’m seeing that such advancements have only accelerated more. Learning will be driven by technology and how we as educators understand it. We can bring in more traditional mediums, but we will need to embrace this future in the service of the best education for our students.
